Close to home

We don’t have to look far for inspiration. This is the view from my front studio window. It truly isn’t particularly fascinating but at the right moment, it is beautiful. Like so many places and times in life, it can be appreciated if seen in the right light.
As a painter, I always have my camera with me when I travel or anticipate seeing something new. I actually started collecting memories visually long before I became serious about painting. I can’t remember dates, names, or specifics but I have a sharp visual memory, mostly for colorful snaps of how I felt at moments in my life. For instance, I know the exact moment I wanted children - and I can still see the baby bed by a window in the corner of a small bedroom. It was a house I’d never been in and would never go back to again but that light filled room is still very clear in my mind.
Keeping this blog has again sparked my interest in SEEING. Collecting images to express myself in this format has opened my eyes to what is right around me, and I needed that. I’ve been hungry for images but recently, I wasn’t seeing them. Even worse, I wasn’t appreciating them. I knew I was missing the joy and delight of NEW….because I’m not so new :)….but I’m finding it again.
I think every effort put forth has a reason and a reward. And I’m learning to appreciate seasons. In my art making, there have been many seasons and I guess if we make art long enough, we all experience that. So the power lines outside my studio have opened my eyes - another season begins.
