Lack of planning can pay off

I’m having fun with some old reference material - and using it in a slightly different way.  I have some images of old machinery that I truly love and I’ve done watercolors of many of them.  Now I’m pulling them out again to use with encaustic.  The difference is that I’m drawing directly on the wax with very little planning - maybe a little thought but not much planning.  Since I don’t have terrific control over the wax medium at this point anyway, why not take advantage of that and relax about the whole process?  I’m beginning to learn how to make corrections as I layer the wax and my actions are becoming more intentional — but I’m enjoying letting each layer take me somewhere I didn’t quite expect.  It’s back to the old “do one thing then another thing then another thing….” way of stumbling forward.
