Painting and Blogging….

I’m realizing that painting and blogging are similar — both are more meaningful if we aren’t aware of our audience. In my case, I do both mainly for myself but the need to communicate is one of my triggers. Making a feeling or memory tangible is important to me.
I love to look at an artist’s work and feel that they’ve communicated with me anonymously — I received a feeling that originated with someone else and now is mine too. That’s what makes me smile and feel warm inside — I got it. And whether WHAT I got is what the artist intended doesn’t really matter. A message was passed quietly and privately - and now it is mine.
Same with blogging. This is my space to toss around a thought and tack it down. I’ve always thought journaling is beautiful but it seems so self-involved! I’ve made MANY attempts over the years but I felt selfish, like I was creating fuel for myself alone. With blogging I have the illusion that someone else might be empowered to express themselves more freely. And I feel that unlike teaching or speaking, the sharing can be unaggressive.
As with art, it can be received or not. Understood or not. Valued or not. What’s important to me is learning by doing with no worries.
